Do I need a TEFL Course to Teach English?

teachers having a meeting

I started teaching English as a foreign language just over two years ago. I had just finished my Bachelors Degree in economics and was wanting to continue my studies and go for a Masters Degree in the same subject.

Over the previous years I had managed to accumulate quite a bit of debt for college fees and living expenses and I was eager to start paying it off. Also, if I was wanting to continue my studies and to start studying for my Masters, I was going to need some extra funds. I started to look at different options and thought also about the idea of even taking a year out to get my finances in order, to take a break from studies and to get some money in the bank.

"One of my friends from College told me about the possibility of going abroad and teaching English as a foreign language and she told me that I didn’t even need any teaching experience. I wasn’t too sure but then they gave me the web address of TEFL recruiters and I decided to speak to one of their team."

I must admit, I was completely surprised to know how much money I could earn while teaching English abroad. They also told me that my flights and expenses would be paid for and I would be given my own private apartment for living accommodation.

It was a great experience and I was able to choose which country and location that I would like to work in, what kind of hours that I wanted to do per week and I had the possibility of training and getting certified actually while I was working in my new job.

Within a few weeks of starting work, I also began my 120 hour TEFL course and completed that while I was actively teaching and in work. Once I completed my TEFL certification I then got another salary increase and I was taking home a very good salary every month.

It was such a great experience to be able to take a break from my studies, completely arrange my financial situation, save money, and at the same time to travel and to see the world.

This really was the perfect solution for me in so many ways and I had such a great time while I was teaching English for my year out. Many thanks to the TEFL recruitment team for helping me out and choosing for me only the best schools to work in and for getting me the best pay and conditions.

I also got hooked with a great school that paid for my TEFL course and I did it while I was working, it gave me a lot more options then when I finished it.

I was earning great money teaching English already before I took that TEFL course but it was definitely worth doing and it did increase my salary where I was in Japan.
